Choosing Eyeglass Lenses

The eyeglass frames you choose will help you express your personality and aesthetic preferences, but the eyeglass lenses are ultimately what enable you to see the world more clearly. Everyone has unique visual needs based on their prescription, and your prescription will change over time. An eye exam at our office is the first step to determining what type of lenses you need.

The eyeglass lenses and lens treatments you choose should help you see clearly in all facets of your life, including driving, working, reading, playing sports, and more. We also have eyeglasses for sale that offer glare reduction and resistance to scratches. Our optical staff will ask you about your lifestyle so they can recommend eye lens options that will best meet your visual needs.

Eyeglass lens types include:

  • Single vision lenses: These lenses have one prescription used throughout the entire lens and help you see clearer at a single distance.
  • Bifocal lenses: These lenses contain two prescriptions that have a dividing line between them. The top of the lens corrects for distance and the bottom corrects for up close.
  • Trifocal lenses: These lenses include three prescriptions separated by lines. They correct faraway, intermediate, and near vision.
  • Progressive lenses: These lenses also offer multiple prescriptions in one lens, but they are line-free, offering a smooth transition when shifting your view between the prescriptions.

Eyeglass lens materials include:

  • Plastic
  • Polycarbonate
  • Trivex
  • High-index plastic

Our eyeglass lenses can be treated for added benefits that promote vision comfort including UV-blocking treatment, photochromic treatment, scratch-resistant coating, and glare-control coating.
